Jesse M. Adams for City Councilor at Large this November

The Life and Times of Jesse M. Adams

I have lived in Northampton for many years and have always admired the people in the community. I don’t think there is another city as unique, creative, intelligent, and beautiful as Northampton.

My father has owned a business downtown for my whole life. As a child, I would go to work with my dad and observe Northampton. I knew it was a special place. Growing up, I had the opportunity to meet people in the community of all different types. I appreciated the diverse viewpoints, personalities, and lifestyles. Today, as an adult, everyday I admire Northampton.

I was raised and educated in Western Massachusetts earning my bachelor’s degree in English from UMASS, and my law degree from Western New England College. Having passed the Massachusetts Bar this year, I am a practicing member of the Northampton legal community.

In my free time I like to hang out with my family, reading, jogging, watching the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics, cooking, tubing on the river, and skateboarding. I am very excited that Northampton now has a skatepark!

This election, I am running for a position on the Board of Trustees of Forbes Library. Charles Edward Forbes gave our city this wonderful library. In his will, he stated that he wanted the library to be governed by elected Trustees from Northampton. He gave us this great gift because, in his words, "The importance of the education of the people cannot be overrated.” His words ring true today, the people of Northampton love to learn, and Forbes is one of Northampton's most vital institutions.

Forbes has been very important to me. I have borrowed from Forbes many great works of literature from Jack Kerouac and Walt Whitman, to Emily Dickinson and Ernest Hemingway. I studied for the bar exam at Forbes as well. During breaks in study, I walked around observing the art on the second floor. I visited the Calvin Coolidge Museum. I am proud that our city has yielded an American president. Silent Cal started his career in politics right here in Northampton! The Coolidge Museum at Forbes has inspired me to take an active part in the community and give back to the people by running for Trustee of Forbes.

As Trustee, I will strive to improve the Forbes library. I will do this by listening to the people of Northampton and making the changes, additions, and improvements they deserve! I am committed to continuously improving our great library!
